One of my Favorite, most brilliant and honest Poems of all times, Aurat (Woman), written by renowned Poet, Lyricists, Writer and Social Activist late Kaifi Azmi (1920 – 2002) कैफ़ीआज़मी کیفی ا عظمی, who was born in Uttar Pradesh, North India and moved to Mumbai and its Hindi Film Industry after independence. His wife is Shaukat Azmi, originally from Hyderabad, who later evolved into a “character” Actor in Hindi-Urdu Theater and Films. Aurat was written in early 1950s, for her, as well as for the newly independent women (still not there) of India and South Asia, and for women at large, advocating equality as a simple, basic right which can’t be denied.
